The square outside Aghios Panteleimon church, like in similar situations, has been turned, from a place of strolling, children playing and mind concentration, into a large free parking area.
This is the square outside Athens cathedral church in the centre of the city.
And this is the situation outside Acropolis archeological site entrance.
Despite many complaints this is the situation in the recent "pedestrianisation" of Dionysiou Areopagitou street, which runs along the southern side of Acropolis archeological area.
Opposite to Acropolis, this is the situation of Philopappou hill. Locals complain, not only for the illegal parking and movement of motorised vehicles, visible in this picture, but also for new streets for motorised traffic, fencing and buildings construction in this area, which combines a park and places of archeological interest.
In Athens, the principal use of curb ramps of the sidewalks, is not the service of wheelchair users, but the smooth access to the "sidewalk" of motorcycles...
...and of cars too, whenever this is possible.
Blind people complain that the few special guides on the sidewalks become useless because of illegal parking and other obstacles. Most of the perpetrators ignore the purpose of these guides, because handicapped are very rarely seen on the streets of Athens: they don't dare to move in this city, where special abilities are required for pedestrian movement.
This ramp in the underground passage is blocked to keep off motorcycle movement (notice the sign). Of course it is also blocked for wheelchair or baby stroller users, in whose favour is supposed to be constructed (Syngrou avenue, another example of monstrous urban motorway, dividing densely populated districts)
